Practise Tips
Getting the most out of workplace or online yoga classes:
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in.
Tell your teacher everything. Well, maybe not everything, but if you have any injuries or changes in your body, they will need to know.
You can always email us if it’s a sensitive issue. It’s best to practise yoga on an empty stomach. Try not to eat a big meal within two hours before class. A light snack and water are okay.
Yoga is best in bare feet.
Do not strain or go beyond the limitations of your body. Remain loose and natural.
For meditation sessions please make sure you are comfortable. Sitting with our bodies at ease.
This may mean sitting in a chair, with pillows or folded blankets if on the floor, using the back of the chair or a wall if your spine requires the support. The position that is right is the position that allows your mind to be alert, calm and steady. Pain does not allow this. It’s helpful to remind ourselves that yoga is always a search for balance. The aim: balanced mind, balanced breath, balanced body.
Importantly please contact us if you have any health concerns, conditions or injuries (long or short term) that need to be discussed.
Keep in mind the classes focus on creating a balanced approach in our practise - aiming to feel better at the end than when we began.
So adjusting the way we move in depth, challenge and speed is important depending on what our bodies need. We are all trained and happy to provide alternatives for those of you who need different movement options to ensure a safe and effective practise for you.
Workplace classes:
Our yoga teachers try to travel by foot, bike or public transport, so we don’t carry yoga mats for all.
We encourage students to provide their own mats, a mat isn’t essential on carpeted surfaces… But can be very helpful.
